Phishing Scammers

Internet hackers and scammers are becoming increasingly talented and skillful at new forms of ways to scam money out of people online. Gone are the days when a few hackers in Nigeria would send out millions of emails promising the user millions from some king, more advanced hackers are using phishing to scam billions each year.

In computing, phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. eBay and PayPal are two of the most targeted companies, and online banks are also common targets.

Phishing is typically carried out by email or instant messaging, and often directs users to give details at a website, although phone contact has been used as well. Types of phishing were actually seen as early as the mid 1990's but it has only been in the pasty few year where they have become more organized and skillful.

A typical example of phishing could be a hacker sending out millions of emails from a particular bank relying that a percentage of the recipitants are members of that particular bank. When seeing the 'official' looking email from their bank the users will then login thinking they are on their secure bank's site. But what they are really on is just a very good copy of the bank site, and the scammers now have all the information they need to steal your money.

There are a few things you can do to make sure you don't get scammed by phishers, you must always check the email thoroughly before you click any links, and if you are unsure then go to your browser and go directly to your banks website. But the best method is to get the correct software to protect you and your bank account.
